Peter G. Peterson Addresses Forum, Presented with Award for Excellence

Peter G. Peterson, the renowned Greek American business leader and philanthropist, addressed a capacity crowd of more than 200 members of Leadership 100 from across the country and their guests at the inaugural Leadership 100 Forum on Business and Philanthropy at the Onassis Cultural Center in the Olympic Tower in New York City on Thursday night, September 9, 2010. After delivering a stirring and sobering message on the state of the U.S. economy and its global implications, he was honored by His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America and Leadership 100 Chairman, Constantine G. Caras with the Archbishop Iakovos Leadership 100 Award for Excellence.

Nicholas J. Bouras Designated Life-Time Board Member

The Leadership 100 Board of Trustees voted unanimously at its meeting in New York September 10, 2010 to designate Nicholas J. Bouras, one of the first members to join, and a member of its Board of Trustees since 1997, “Honorary Life-Time Member of the Board of Trustees.” His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios and Leadership 100 Chairman, Constantine G. Caras, along with Acting Executive Director Paulette Poulos traveled to the offices of Bouras Properties in Summit, New Jersey to bestow upon Bouras the Archbishop Iakovos Leadership 100 Award for Excellence for his extraordinary service and philanthropy.

Archbishop Demetrios Presented with Check for Holy Cross Scholarships

Constantine G. Caras, Leadership 100 Chairman, presented His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios with a check for $500,000 for Holy Cross Scholarships at the Board of Trustees meeting September 10, 2010 in New York. The amount represented the second installment of a $1 million grant approved for 2010 by the Executive Committee at its meeting during the 19th Annual Leadership 100 Conference last February. At that time, the Committee committed to the extension of the scholarship program for seminarians preparing for the Priesthood at Holy Cross School of Theology in the amount of $1 million a year through 2018, re-designating the program “Leadership 100 Scholars” and setting new criteria for the granting of the scholarships recommended by a special committee headed by Charles H. Cotros, Leadership 100 Vice Chairman.

Manatos Family Celebrates 100th Anniversary
The Manatos family recently celebrated three important milestones, including the 100th anniversary of the arrival of their family in the United States. The celebration was covered by US News & World Report, Politico, The Hill, Roll Call and NBC Washington. The celebration marked the arrival of Nick A. Manatos 100 years ago (on July 27, 1910) at Ellis Island from Crete, Greece, as well as the 75th anniversary of the arrival of Mike N. Manatos in Washington, DC, where he served as the Senate liaison to Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson and began the family's uninterrupted work on US public policy development from the public and private sector, and the 20th anniversary of Mike A. Manatos joining the firm of Manatos & Manatos.

Rumpakis Supports Creation of Hellenic Studies Program
E. John Rumpakis, a member of Leadership 100 and prominent businessman, helped establish the Hellenic Studies Program at Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. A long-standing supporter of the school, he donated $250,000 to initiate the program last July. The mission of the new program is to strengthen the relationship between the Portland region “and the people, culture and businesses of Greece and the Greek Diaspora” with classes in language, history, culture and current affairs and internships, study abroad opportunities, lectures and performances by visiting scholars, authors and artists.

Harry Wilson, a prominent business analyst and investment advisor, who is the son and grandson of Greek immigrants, has joined Leadership 100. Born and raised in Johnstown, New York,and a graduate of both Harvard University and Harvard Business School, his career of assessing institutional investors and fund managers involved stints at Goldman Sachs, Clayton, Dubilier & Rice and The Blackstone Group. He is the 2010 Republican candidate for New York State Comptroller.
