The fifth commemoration of National Leadership 100 Sunday was observed on October 27, 2013 in parishes across the nation, the Sunday following the Feast of Saint Iakovos as a tribute to Archbishop Iakovos of Blessed Memory, according to Charles H. Cotros, Leadership 100 Chairman. Parish priests read an Encyclical issued by His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of the Greek Orthodox Church of America on behalf of the Holy Eparchial Synod.

Members of Leadership 100 in the Direct Archdiocesan District and all Metropolises coordinated programs with parish priests to develop an awareness of the role of Leadership 100 in providing critical support of the National Ministries and institutions of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, including primary support of scholarships for seminarians studying for the priesthood at Hellenic College-Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology.

Among the parishes, Stephen G. Yeonas, Chairman Emeritus of Leadership 100, who initiated the concept of National Leadership 100 Sunday when he served as Chairman, led the observance for the fifth consecutive year together with Ted and Jim Pedas at Saint Sophia Cathedral in Washington D.C., where Rev. Fr. Steven P. Zorzos gave an inspirational address on Leadership 100 and how it benefited numerous priests, including himself, through scholarships at Hellenic College- Holy Cross. Arthur C. Anton, Sr., a Founder and Chairman Emeritus of Leadership was introduced by V. Rev. Fr. Cleopas Strongylis, Dean of Annunciation Cathedral in Boston, to directly address the congregation on the role of Leadership 100’s philanthropy in benefiting the Greek Orthodox Church and Community over three decades, also emphasizing support of scholarships at Hellenic College-Holy Cross. He read off the names of members of Leadership 100 at Annunciation Cathedral. Anton and his wife, Madeline, both long-time members of Leadership 100. also hosted the coffee hour and were joined during the celebration by Leadership 100 members James P. and Anna Lemonias.

Ted Zampetis, who had chaired National Leadership 100 Sunday last year, organized a program at St. Nicholas Church in Tory, MI, joined by George P. Psihas, while at St. George Church in Bethesda, MD, Leadership 100 members John and Angela Sitilides, Mike and Laura Manatos, and Leon and Robyn Andris distributed information on the mission and legacy of Leadership 100. Both Johns Sitilides, who is Chairman of the Grant Committee, and Mike Manatos, are members of the Leadership 100 Board of Trustees. At Assumption Church in Chicago, IL, Lou Malevitis also conducted a program.
Membership in Leadership 100 today is inextricably tied with these critical National Ministries to which more than $35.6 million in grants have been distributed over 29 years, including the scholarship funds for Holy Cross School of Theology, support of Youth, Camping and Young Adult Ministries; Interfaith Marriage and Family Ministries; Information Technologies, Internet and Telecommunications Ministries; Stewardship, Outreach and Evangelism; Religious and Greek Education; Parish Development; and Inter-Orthodox, Ecumenical and Interfaith Relations.
Leadership 100 has also provided funding for International Orthodox Christian Ministries (IOCC) and Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC) and Metropolis Ministries, and has responded to the needs of the nation and the world with assistance in the aftermath of September 11, Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Sandy, and the devastating fires and earthquakes in Greece.
Today, Leadership 100 counts some 925 members from a broad spectrum of Greek Orthodox leaders, men and women of all ages from every field of endeavor, including Leadership 100 Partners, young Greek Americans given an opportunity to join at a lower contribution level, progressing as they pursue their careers, and Leadership Junior Partners, sponsored in their youth with the option to join at age 21.
